Like a many, many-headed beast, grind in 2019 has stabbed, slashed, bitten, and gnawed from a million different angles. And it’s still only just turned October. Whether jean-jacketed and classic or dressed up like an Oxford student having an avant-garden picnic, fans of the fastest style of music that doesn’t…
Life is all about relationships. You enjoy the good ones and work towards maintaining them, reaping the rewards when the two parties really ‘click’. That’s why we’ve got more new Fawn Limbs for you. The mathgrind project from Finland by way of Pennsylvania continue to churn out the most chaotic…
Heavy Bloggers rejoice, your first taste of new music today comes in the form of genre-melding, skin melting proto-sludge metal that hits hard, riffs hard, and basks in the doom and gloom of life. From one of the minds behind Heavy favourites Fawn Limbs and Infinite Nomad, Mireplaner’s debut LP…
As is the case every year we do this, the exact makeup and composition of the fine (and not so fine) people who build our ranks here at Heavy Blog shifts and changes with every passing year. In a way it’s inevitable that over time you might see the general…
Another wild year is coming to an end so it’s about time all you grinders scrubbed down your manky gears and made them all pretty looking for Satan Claus. This list won’t be exhaustive in the slightest, as there are hundreds of grind and grind-adjacent records that I just didn’t have the time to check out — there were just as many that I gave a cursory fifteen seconds listen and decided ‘NOPE’. This ‘year in review ‘will be focused almost entirely on bands that I’ve thrown into the scabby battle pit of Grind My Gears over the last twelve months, with the snarky titles and blunt force imagery used rearing their charming, cultured head yet again. If you didn’t enjoy any of it so far, you can go right ahead and browse Pitchfork’s Top 50 instead, you fucking wet blanket.
“What the fuck did I just listen to?” When I forwarded this to Eden, his reaction instantly let me know how he felt about this devastating blast of microtonal death metal. You’ll probably be thinking the same after the next three minutes. From the wild minds of Lee Fisher (Commit…
There’s more than a touch of irony in the title of this crushing EP from Transatlantic mathgrind project Fawn Limbs. Press play on their second EP and you’ll be left as far from “calm” or “tranquil” as humanly possible. Imagine waking up from a night terror soaked in sweat, breathing…
I love it when the three carefully selected acts I throw in this column all have an overarching theme that I didn’t realise until the very last minute, forcing my hand and ultimately ensuring the introduction I had previously written gets fucked right into the sea. Projects built over the Internet with friends, new and old – hence the title, I’m sorry but there is not a real Grind Symphony, yet – the next few bands Grinding My Gears range from veterans raising their fists at the sky, electric pink violence, and a new act that might just have released my favourite ten minutes of music this year.
