115 – Millennials Are Ruining Guitar Music

This week we bring some extra salt. We talk about Gibson guitars being on the verge of bankruptcy, peoples' musical tastes getting calcified in their teen years, me being nominated for an innovative guitarist contest (and other amazing musicians, so go vote and check them out!), and discussing new or upcoming material from Ihsahn, Between the Buried and Me, and Huggsja. Then we shine a light on Crescent and Aliases. In cool people time we discuss Black Panther (spoiler warning). Enjoy!

59 – AOTY 2016 Deliberations, Part 1: Vape In

So we're doing a two-part series on picking the podcast's official albums of the year 2016. We start with the blog's list of 400+ albums that are worth consideration this year, whittle it down to 86 albums we care about, and then start cutting them. The objective is to get to a ranked list of 10 items and an overall list of 20 albums. We get down to about 45 this week until the cuts really start to hurt. This was real fun to do, so I hope you all enjoy too! The lists will be posted below.

33 – Edgy Pod Is Shitpost Cast

We're back to our normal setup! And just like many artists who make a comeback past their time, we're hella edgy this week. Since we skipped a week, this week is all news and discussion surrounding recent events! Like what, you ask? Well, Meshuggah's 25 year package, Sepultura working on their new album, Manowar's calling it quits, some random Christian band going full /r/atheism, Bandcamp's dig at Apple Music, Justin of Sikth being replaced by Joe of Aliases, Lee leaving After the Burial, Dragonforce releasing a "best of" album, Pain of Salvation remastering Remedy Lane. New music or teases thereof by: Periphery, Revocation, Whispered, Metallica, Last Chance To Reason, Whispered, Thank You Scientist, Starofash, Stam1na and Machine Head. The passing of Nick Menza of Megadeth. The end of Temples Festival. Finally, discussing this trendy "best of 2016 so far" list, some Apple Music playlist that tries way too hard, and Gojira's upcoming album Magma. Make sure you don't cut yourself with the edge on this episode!

Heavy Blog’s Editors’ Picks: April 2016

We knew it was coming. April marks the beginning of spring release season, when the number of marquee albums starts going sky high and incredible albums are suddenly dropping left and right. And yet looking back at this past month it's just utterly astounding how much amazing music came out even from the get-go. April 1 was a humongous day for releases, and it simply did not stop after that. Narrowing down this huge wealth of albums to a select few was nearly impossible, but thankfully we also have our "short"-list to include everything else we completely loved, all of which are included in our Spotify playlist for the month, which is embedded here and on our front page. And with that, let's get to our editor picks for April!
