The Agony Scene – Tormentor

2018 has seen some surprising, and surprisingly solid, comebacks from many of the metalcore and NWOAHM bands that populated the early 2000s. However, few have been as unexpected or as outstanding as The Agony Scene’s Tormentor. Many of their peers have succeeded by simply cementing their relevance in recent years,…

Bleed From Within – Era

If the impending Bleeding Through comeback record represents the logical conclusion of the metalcore revival, then Era perhaps represents its pinnacle. Bleed From Within struggled to raise their heads above the pack during the genre’s heyday. 2018, however, sees them return with not only an A-grade record, but one which…

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Aspire Bring It In With “Outsiders”

A shift of pace from the rancid, foul grind that I regularly bring to the table as today bears witness to the sounds of Scotland’s latest metalcore miscreants. Check in for big bouncy riffs, hooks that kill and some fancy but not wanky tech chops. From the Sumerian school of guitar interplay and fast tracked to a scholarship on the Erra program, Aspire come in hard and heavy with the summer sounds on “Outsiders”. Taps aff, it’s time to swing your fists.

The Anatomy Of: From Sorrow To Serenity

Watching a band develop over the years is a privilege that is hard to describe. But I’ll give it a shot. A few years ago I caught From Sorrow To Serenity on a stacked line up in one of Glasgow’s smaller metal venues. Skip forward a couple of years and their first full length has been released. Remnant Of Humanity is a colossal groove train of a record. Snapping up guest appearances from members of Bleed From Within, Betraying The Martyrs and Thy Art Is Murder, the album has been spun on national radio, spread all over the worldwide metal blogisphere and has the band supporting deathcore heavyweights Fit For An Autopsy on their upcoming UK tour. I pestered Steven Jones, the axeman and dial wizard from the band about where the From Sorrow To Serenity took shape. Bonne.
