Love Letter to Neil Peart and Rush

Between the Buried and Me. Dillinger Escape Plan. Periphery. Death. Dream Theater. Opeth. Tool. Mastodon. Meshuggah. Protest the Hero. Cynic. Voivod. And so, so, so many others. I could go on ad nauseum but suffice to say, hard rock and heavy metal as we know it would not exist without…

The Damned Things – High Crimes

The debut album of The Damned Things, Ironiclast, came seemingly out of left-field in December of 2010. Over time I’ve softened and come to appreciate that not all pop-infused music can be painted with the same brush. More than…

Against the Grain – Cheated Death

For many who explore the crevasses of extreme music, “rock” is a word that has some not-so-good connotations. Like, “this shit is guaranteed to be boring” connotations. Let’s take a quick look at what’s likely the two biggest offenders to the name of rock. There’s no question that the poor…

In Defense Of – Phish

Hi, my name is Pete and I followed Phish in college. So now that that’s out of the way, I really think Phish deserves an honest shake. As underground music fans, we have a high tolerance for strange forms of music. We love metal bands, and the heavier and denser,…
