Massachusetts prog metal band Caricature — who you may remember as the band who previously dedicated an entire half hour epic to a special feline friend this year —  have just released their new EP Unborn earlier this month. Featuring past and present members of Heavy Blog favorites System Divide, Binary Code, and Last Chance To Reason, it’s a melodic groove-minded record for fans of acts such as Gojira, Periphery, and Devin Townsend Project. Expect propulsive songwriting and a plethora of soaring, memorable choruses.

The EP’s second track, “Man Of Science,” wears the meaning of its title right on its sleeve as evidenced by the new video which features shots of religious symbols and the American flag juxtaposed against burning landscapes, empty playgrounds, and barbed wire fences.

Speaking on the video, frontman and songwriter Joseph Spiller explains: “Man Of Science was all about the riffs during the writing phase and how they felt. So when it came to coming up with the lyrical content, I decided to go with the idea of how things make people feel which ultimately led me to how there is a noticeable portion of our population that run solely off how things make them feel and put emotional stock in them based on how something sounds rather than if it is based anywhere remotely near fact. The video collage I put with it is what it is and is left without any real context so its up to the viewer to take from it what they wish. Artsy schmartzy eh?”

Unborn can be purchased now through the band’s Bandcamp page. Unborn is also available trough iTunes and Spotify.
