Richmond, VA’s Windhand are rising stars in the world of doom metal, shamelessly and effectively on a fast-track to becoming a better Electric Wizard than Electric Wizard themselves. Relapse Records picked up the act for their sophomore full-length Soma, which was a powerful play of fuzzy down-tempo Sabbath worship that went on to be one of 2013’s must-hear albums in extreme metal.
Following frontwoman Dorthia Cottrell’s critically successful turn as a folk/acoustic solo artist earlier this year, Windhand are moving forward with their third record, Grief’s Infernal Flower. The band have teamed up with Vice’s Noisey for a visual behind-the-scenes update on the early stages of the recording process with legendary producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, High on Fire) at Soundhouse Recording in Seattle, WA. No doubt, the album’s production will be fittingly grungy.
It’s still early, but keep an eye out for news regarding Grief’s Infernal Flower in the coming weeks when the recording process wraps up. The album is expected out on September 18th through Relapse Records. Until then, revisit Soma and Dorthia Cottrell’s self-titled solo record and feel the doom creep in.
