Disclaimer: I shouldn’t be enjoying this track so much. On paper, it’s far from being my thing: it’s black metal, it’s avant-garde black metal and neither of those things are really “my deal”. However, I can’t stop listening to it. For the uninitiated, Dodheimsgard are one of the weirder bands out there, peddling their black metal vocals other jazzy, disjointed instrumentals over tracks spanning fifteen minutes and more. They recently released an excerpt from this track but we now have the full thing. If you haven’t closed your browser window by now, click below to get it!
Ah, where do I even begin with this? Perhaps with the amazing vocals. I don’t usually take to this style of singing, the clown-esque, super macabre shrill, but I’m loving it here. Something about the way its produced just rings true and it really works very well with the instruments. These are also brilliant, spanning so many different feels along these fifteen minutes. I am now inexplicably excited for this new album, set to be one of the most refreshing and genre-defying this year. Expect our review as soon as we get whoever writes it out of the asylum.
