DoomedToBe

There are those of us who are always wanting for new music. Whether it be a need for something new- a total change of pace- or just a love for the discovery and exploration, we all, at some point or another, need to expand our horizons. In fact, I’d say that expanding horizons is something we advocate heavily for here at Heavy Blog Is Heavy. And it’s nice to be able to say that now, with the first of a three-part series of compilations across 2015, Hypnotic Dirge records, a not-for-profit label based out of Saskatchewan, has made that exploration easy for anyone who wants some underground doom metal.

Hypnotic Dirge is a label that specializes in mostly doom and black metal, and so this compilation is, suitably, the doom segment of the three-part comp series. The tracks on the compilation, named Subarctic Nocturnes: Doomed to Be, range across all sorts of subgenres of doom — gothic, funeral, traditional, death-doom, etc. And, having listened to it, I can confirm this is a good compilation to pick up; the tracks are varied, and each one is fantastic. It’s all available for free, as well, so it’s definitely worth the download.
