Inter Arma are gearing up for the release of their new EP The Cavern — a 40-minute one-track epic that spans the genres of Americana, death/doom, and prog — in just under a month from now. In lieu of hyping the release with a full song stream (and thereby giving away the goods ahead of release), Relapse Records chose to simply chop out a section of The Cavern for sampling purposes under the guise of an “album trailer.” This is a bit misleading however, as the unassumingly titled “Album Trailer #2” video features a whopping five-and-a-half minutes of music that might otherwise have been released as its own standalone track. The Cavern might just find itself as a surprise entry on my Best of 2014 list if the entire track maintains this level of quality. Of course, it’ll be hard to tell where the track will end up in its substantial timeframe, but I’m hoping for extensive use of acoustic instruments. The album’s first trailer seems to hint in that direction, anyway.
