Back in high school, Opeth and In Flames were two highly influential bands when it came to my introduction to death metal. From around 2006 through 2008, the prospect of catching both acts on a single tour would have seemed like a dream come true. A lot has happened since high school however, and both bands have fallen out of the good graces of many who fell in love with their early-to-mid-career material. Is a tour featuring Opeth and In Flames even worth caring about in 2014?!

While there’s still hope that Opeth will put on a killer show — their new album was actually not terrible! — the In Flames shipped has sailed. Fat chance hearing much material pre-Clayman. But between Mikael Akerfeldt’s highly publicized boredom with death metal and In Flames just being themselves, it’s hard to get too excited despite my inner teen losing his mind. At least special guests Red Fang have been extended a golden opportunity to play to bigger audiences than usual!
