Tombs have been building momentum towards the release of their next album, Savage Gold, and now release day is here! With the release of two astounding tracks behind them, expectations are set high for the third album from one of the most convincingly experimental bands out there. In order to usher in the album, the band are giving us a glimpse into the depth and intellectual capacity behind it. This takes the form of a track by track breakdown from none other than Mike Hill, the lead vocalist. Sit back as Mike takes you on a fascinating journey into the concepts behind three of the tracks, ‘Thanatos’, ‘Portraits’ and ‘Seance’. You can check it out right after the jump!
To say the least, these five minutes are incredibly interesting. Several fascinating ideas are expressed in the words of Hill, alongside a general approach to the subject of death and existence which is important: we don’t know what happens when we die but music is an excellent way to explore different ideas and ways to think about it. Personally, I found the imagery of night and sleep as a female subject to be fascinating, as that echoes several well founded perceptions in literature and psychology. If previous releases are any indication, Tombs will handle all these intriguing subjects with maturity and intelligence alongside powerful and unique metal.
Savage Gold sees release today! You can stream it in full below, via Bandcamp, and purchase it via Relapse Records. Don’t miss out, it’s set to be one of the most impressive albums of the year!
