A discussion came up the other day in the Heavy Blog group about how the new album from The Mire is the first great post-metal record of 2014, which is a fair point to make. However, we were quickly reminded of the impending release of a new Junius EP that may just stake a claim for that spot.
Tallest Eden recently called the record ‘a powerful album that defies its post-rock influences‘, but now you can make your own mind up as the entire thing is now available for streaming. Beyond the tracks we heard as teasers, there isn’t too much that is particularly fresh but the record definitely makes more sense as a full and complete piece, including the adjacent ‘joiner’ tracks that lead each one into the next.
Great post-metal? I’d say so.
