More and more bands are pulling from the atonal chaos set in motion by bands like Portal and Deathspell Omega, and I couldn’t be happier. If it’s dark, noisey, and technical, we’re all about it. Thantifaxath are a band cut from the same cloth as the aforementioned progenitors, right down to the anonymous mystique the three-piece carries. From under their robes, this group weaves a unique spin on the atmospheric black metal trend, building off genre cliches and turning them on their head in a fashion not dissimilar to last year’s Altar of Plagues swansong Teethed Glory and Injury. Thantifaxath’s new album Sacred White Noise is now streaming, and it’s an early contender as one of the best releases from 2014.

The album can be streamed in its entirety from the Bandcamp player below. Don’t be put off by any genre tropes you may hear out of the gate, because there’s more than meets the eye with Sacred White Noise.

The album is out today through Dark Descent Records. Pick up a very reasonably priced 12″ LP (and CDs, if you’re into that sort of thing) at this location.
