Death’s Door // June 2019

Welcome to Death’s Door, Hellions. Pop a squat on a bone throne and get comfy. There’s plenty of premium content to be had in the world of death metal, and Scott and I are here to deliver unto thee the goods. I’ve been doing quite a bit of complaining about…

Vulvodynia – Mob Justice

Vulvodynia burst into the death metal scene five years ago and have since grown exponentially. You can get the bands merch printed on just about any item or surface imaginable – from backpacks to shower curtains, on sandals and your new child’s birth certificate. Probably. They’ve also put a handful of LPs and EPs, more importantly to the purpose of this review. 2016’s Psychosadistic Design saw the band hit a brutal death metal stride that seemingly disregarded their relative freshness to the genre, and now, three years on, and several more releases from the members’ side projects, the South African’s are back with Mob Justice.

Krosis – Solem Vatem

“Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere” is the phrase that comes to mind when contemplating Salem Vatem, the 2nd full length album from Krosis, the Raleigh, NC based progressive deathcore band. The food is the music served to us, filling our mental plate with meaty breakdowns while also providing a variety of…

Hey! Listen To Reptilian Civilian!

Do you enjoy no nonsense, riff filled death metal? Do you like sub bass drops and beat downs? Do you also believe that the ruling class of the world is made up of scaly, lizard people? Well, even if you only answered yes to the first two questions, you will almost definitely enjoy the devilishly wholesome offerings of Brisbane’s Reptilian Civilian. Five guys hanging out and playing sick death metal with plenty of tech and slam, these chaps deliver on the promise of every tag you’ll find their music under on Bandcamp. Slamming brutal technical deathcore with a global conspiracy theme? Yes, this will be fine.

Acranius – Reign of Terror

Death metal fanatics can get super pissy. This isn’t news. It’s an endless meme of a thread devolving into name-calling over the wrong genre prefix. It takes a sense of humor and humility to enjoy brutal death metal because of this. Whether it’s slam/brutal death/slamming brutal death doesn’t matter. If…

What Heavy Blog Is Really Listening To – 9/23/16

For those who missed our last installment, We post biweekly updates covering what the staff at Heavy Blog have been spinning. Given the amount of time we spend on the site telling you about music that does not fall neatly into the confines of conventional “metal,” it should come as no surprise that many of us on staff have pretty eclectic tastes that range far outside of metal and heavy things. We can’t post about all of them at length here, but we can at least let you know what we’re actually listening to. For those that would like to participate as well (and please do) can drop a 3X3 in the comments, which can be made with tapmusic.net through your last.fm account, or create it manually with topsters.net. Also, consider these posts open threads to talk about pretty much anything music-related. We love hearing all of your thoughts on this stuff and love being able to nerd out along with all of you.

Hey! Listen To Vulvodynia!

South Africa and brutal death metal don’t normally fit together in the same sentence but one young band is about to change that forever. Vulvodynia (don’t look up the meaning of the word, for serious) play some of the sickest, most technical slam you haven’t heard yet. Taking their instructions…
