119 – Don’t Blame Noyan Please

Noyan is away, so Eden hosts fellow blog editor, Nick Cusworth! This gives the two opportunity to talk about stuff that usually doesn’t come up on the cast which they use to shine a light on Jim Grey from Caligula’s Horse releasing a video for the A Capela segment on their latest album, Plini releasing a new track, and a deep dive on the changes undergoing the post rock scene, recommended bands that make post rock or metal and the close knit networks that make these scenes happen! Along the way, they mention bands like Man Mountain, This Patch of Sky, Town Portal, VASA, Rumour Cubes, The Physics House Band, Alpha Male Tea Party, Mountain, Below a Silent Sky, Flora, Soldat Hans and more!

Then, it’s time for the bad news. They start off with surprising opinions revolving around gun control, first from Run the Jewels’ Killer Mike and then from Taylor Swift. They then move on to the click-bait article published on The Washington Post which claims that physical sales exceeded digital ones in 2017. While that’s technically true, the two analyze why that happened and get pretty personal on vinyl and CDs! Lastly, there’s a trio of terrible politics from the metal community. The first is the ridicule in the wake of The Faceless breaking up again, and what that says about the community’s terrible perspectives on addiction. Then, there’s another statement from Decapitated who totally by accident (allegedly) misinterpret and represent the facts of their trial again. Finally, there’s the awful news of Inquisition’s Dagon involvement with child pornography and, surprise, the community’s desire to protect him.

Cool people time includes The Witcher 3, CW’s Black Lightning and Ninefox Gambit!

104 – Ayreon Brotherhood

Yay normal episode! This week we have a bunch of weird/grim news to talk about. Jay-Z suing journalists, Taylor Swift suing journalists, Marilyn Manson pointing a fake gun at an audience after a shooting, Jesse of Brand New being accused of sexual assault. Then some new music, like Impureza and Bloodshot Dawn. Then we talk about what we’ve been listening to lately, and have an extended discussion about Eden’s recent editorial on the aesthetics of abrasive vocals in metal. Then cool people time on The Evil Within 2, Wolfenstein 2 (spoilers!) and Endless Space 2. Enjoy!

98 – That 2008 Shit

A bunch of news and content! I’m just going to list it. Kiss’s Gene Simmons talking about his $2000 box set, Super Deluxe roasting Taylor Swift via Limp Bizkit, Machines of Man, Machine Head, Linkin Park’s tribute show to Chester (and our picks for vocalist), Sutrah, the Sacred Son artwork controversy, and the new Winds of Plague single. Also how ridiculous this Friday’s releases have been. Then we do a deep segment on producer Jens Bogren, including his work on Ihsahn, Leprous, Vildhjarta, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Devin Townsend, VOLA and more. Finally, cool people time. The cool horror/sci-fi game Echo, Kingsman: The Gold Circle, mother!, Hannu Rajaniemi’s The Causal Angel, Sunless Skies and more.  Enjoy!

95 – Taylor Swift

We’re back! Sorry. Not much going on, anyway. First, Matt Harvey of Exhumed’s dumb statement about Nazis and Toilet ov Hell’s great response. Oli from Archspire wanting to fight Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying. Indie labels creating their own streaming services. The unfortunate news that Todd Honeycutt, the bassist for Enfold Darkness has committed suicide. Then, new stuff from Mastodon, Shokran, Soften the Glare (featuring Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne), Taylor Swift, Unleash the Archers, and Archspire. Also, Messengers by August Burns Red is 10! We also discuss me going back to Slipknot’s latest and thinking it’s not bad. Enjoy!

What Heavy Blog Is Really Listening To – 9/1/17

For those who missed our last installment, We post biweekly updates covering what the staff at Heavy Blog have been spinning. Given the amount of time we spend on the site telling you about music that does not fall neatly into the confines of conventional “metal,” it should come as no surprise that many of us on staff have pretty eclectic tastes that range far outside of metal and heavy things. We can’t post about all of them at length here, but we can at least let you know what we’re actually listening to. For those that would like to participate as well (and please do) can drop a 3X3 in the comments, which can be made with tapmusic.net through your last.fm account, or create it manually with topsters.net. Also, consider these posts open threads to talk about pretty much anything music-related. We love hearing all of your thoughts on this stuff and love being able to nerd out along with all of you.
