I'll be honest with you - I mostly don't have the patience anymore for instrumental music. I need the vocals, even if sparse and rare, to anchor me to a band's message. However, it's not a full aversion but rather just a lack of interest - the right track, from the right band, can still hook me in and send me on the sonic journeys that instrumental music is so good for. But it needs to have flair and groove and be interesting. That's exactly what Verbian bring to their table with their fast-paced, energetic, psychedelic post-metal. Yeah, that's the best way I can put it; suffice it to say, there's an Elder shirt in the video and trippy synths but also really excellent and present drums, punchy bass, and an approach to guitar that's straight-forward and incredibly crunchy. Oh, and it's all played live. Scroll down below and check it out!
This track comes to us off of the band's upcoming release, Casarder, which drops on March 21st. And it also rocks as all hell - I just love the concise approach to songwriting here. While the track definitely draws from psychedelic and stoner spaces, it does not need to sprawl for minutes on end. Instead, it fuses those more exploratory approaches with the directness and drive of post-metal, creating something that is both rich and immediately accessible at the same time. This makes the track work on both levels - you can dive into it to catch all the little interchanges between synths and guitars, or the ways in which the former instrument undulates inside its own sound, or you can just rock out to the track's many excellent riffs.
The album promises to be more of the same so make sure you head on over to the band's Bandcamp where more information, and a pre-order, will be forthcoming.
