There must be something happening in New Zealand; the same musical climate that gave rise to post-death metal favorites Ulcerate has now birthed the equally powerful six-piece Setentia, whose debut album Darkness Transcend crept up as a late addition to the already impressive year in music. Darkness Transcend holds its own against like-minded releases from Departe, Gorguts, Deathspell Omega, and the aforementioned Ulcerate, providing dynamic nuance and a tangible emotional vulnerability through brooding melodic instrumental passages and atmospheric depth contrasted against swaths of chaotic brutality.

The group’s first ever music video, “Beyond Myopic Blame,” is our first visual representation of the act by way of performance video that highlights their intense musical presence. The band’s massive sound and harmonic layers begin to unfold through the band’s three-piece guitar section, drummer Hugo Gravelle is showcased as a remarkable drummer capable of creating a dynamic and textured percussive performance, and vocalist Jasper Russell-Dennis is a force of a frontman.
