While I’m usually the last to jump on any given bandwagon at any given time, I’m getting on this one while it’s fresh and hot. UK Metalcore upstarts Our Hollow, Our Home are one of a fresh batch of new acts splashing together the heartfelt musings of The Ghost Inside with the kind of metal assault that I Killed The Prom Queen deliver at a professional level. There’s enough of these acts around that the good ones can go unnoticed while the “meh”s of the crop get the limelight. This is not the case here. Jam this band and forever be thankful that their mixture of soaring choruses and bounce happy breakdowns is now plugged into your brain via me.

“Throne To The Wolves” sees this Hampshire group trading punches with their local heroes Jane Austen and Charles Dickens (thanks Google) with prose and pinched harmonics. Now I may have heard some Coldplay in the opening bars of piano but what do I know about that shower? Not much so we’ll move on. When the track kicks in, the next few minutes are awash with sickly sweet clean vocals that are clear enough to see your long lost love through. Too soft for you? Well the harsh vocals and juddering breakdowns that slap in from outta nowhere should roughen you up just the right amount. I know they hit me for six anyway and I eat deathgrind for breakfast. All of these delights and that’s just from one track. Do the world a favour and blast “Feast For The Crows” while you’re at it. Enjoy the heavy handed orchestral hits, playful lead work and that sick fucking dive bomb. Enjoy it good.

Our Hollow, Our Home release their new EP sometime in May. Keep an eye out for it because it takes more talent to stand out in an overpopulated genre than most believe. These guys gots the skills so help ’em pay the bills.
