Genre is something of little interest to Danish trio Town Portal, clearly indicated by the option on their Facebook being filled with a resounding “No.” As unhelpful as this lack of labeling may be, it is not unwarranted, as the band’s take on instrumental rock exhibits a number of interests and influences. Regardless of their style, Town Portal are presently making a keen attempt to shed their “well-kept secret” status with the release of their sophomore album The Occident. Head past the jump to stream the album’s two lead singles – “Bonus Trigger” and “Yes Golem”:

These two singles affirm the remarks made in this post’s introduction. With a core residing somewhere between post rock & metal (comparable to Pelican), tinges of math rock and post hardcore leak into the mix to create a swirl of thick, bouncy riffs pierced from within by punchy percussion. Any fan of some vocal-less goodness may expect The Occident on May 25th, with pre-orders from Small Pond Recordings being available here.
