A couple of years ago, former writer Damien showed me Hivesmasher, a fantastic grindcore band from Massachussetts, and instantly I was hooked. I’ve jammed their opus Gutter Choir so many times, and with each listen the album gets more memorable. However, after nine years of ripping faces apart and screaming at us, they’ve announced their final show, dubbed the Boston Finale.
This really is a bummer. The band were one of the best US acts to come from the scene in recent years, and their music was more memorable than the slews of other bands to emerge around the same time. They never reinvented the wheel, but helped perfect it, making it more rounded and completely void of cracks or flat spots. If you’re in Boston on June 27th, you should really make your way out to the show. The band deserve all the support. A link to the Facebook event can be found here, and you can pick up Gutter Choir for pay-what-you-want here.
