Sometimes, life hands you incredible things, like, for instance, the announcement early this year that Canadian technical death metal outfit Gorguts was going to be releasing remastered versions of not one, but two of the albums from their now-classic discography: 1998’s absolute masterpiece, Obscura, and its follow-up from 2001, From Wisdom To Hate. Both of these albums have absolutely left huge marks on the technical death metal scene worldwide, and their influence is pretty clear to see no matter where you look. Considering the number of new tech-death bands that have sprung up and released fantastic music in the past few years, it seems fitting that the band would choose to release these remasters now.

Context out of the way, I absolutely have to comment on the state of these remastered songs. Wow. These are both amazing. Everything sounds fresh, crisp, and mixed to the point of perfect balance between crushing, grimy death metal, and surgically-precise technique. These remasters bring out the best in both of these songs, and I have no doubt they will hold up just as well across the rest of the tracks.
Both remasters come out April 6th via Century Media Records.
