Bad news, everyone: Chicago’s blackened doom outfit Indian — who released the stunningly bleak From All Purity just a year ago — have apparently called it quits.
The band were slated to perform at Psycho California festival and have since been swapped out with Bongzilla as of February 27th. The festival reports that Indian reached out to cancel, offering the following:
“Indian has come to the point where we can no longer be a band. We have cancelled the few shows we had coming up, including our appearance at Psycho California. We are sincerely sorry to the organizers, who have been nothing but accommodating, and to the people who were wanting to see us play the fest.” – INDIAN
CVLT Nation has since weighed in on the disbandment, and as friends of the band, it doubles down on the legitimacy of the situation. However, the band have not yet updated their Facebook with further word, nor have their label Relapse Records made a fuss about it. Surely the band are preparing something a bit more telling and will update their social media accounts and issue a press release when the time comes.
This is a massive bummer, and fortunately, the band’s members are prolific and will likely continue to thrive in other projects; guitarist/vocalist Will Lindsay is also involved in Abigail Williams (whose forthcoming new album is hotly anticipated around these parts) and Anatomy of a Habit, while drummer Bill Bumgardner has been splitting his time with Lord Mantis. But still, while the incestuous Chicago extreme metal scene will churn on, Indian will be sorely missed.
