Relapse Records are poised for a big year in 2015. Their 25th year of operation, the label are not only reissuing a slew of classic records on vinyl, but they’re also going to be pushing new records from up-and-coming and established acts alike. Their release plans for the year have been swelling seemingly by the week, and the latest movement includes the announcement of a brand new signing in Portland’s sludge/doom quartet Graves at Sea.
Despite forming over a decade ago and making appearances at vital metal festivals Roadburn and Maryland Deathfest, the group are just now preparing their full-length debut. The bluesy fuzz riffs and slow-burning style of songwriting carries on in the tradition of labelmates Windhand and Rwake that furthers Relapse’s dominance in the genre.
Graves at Sea will be entering Audible Alchemy studio in Portland this summer with producer Greg Wilkinson, so expect a fall release. In the mean time, you can get acquainted with the outfit via their 2014 EP This Place Is Poison below, which features appropriately re-imagined Black Sabbath cover(s) ‘Orchid / Lord Of This World.’
