Morbid Angel have never been a predictable band, but it’s no secret that their last album Illud Divinum Insanus was their most divisive and least consistent to date. Sure, every band with a lengthy career has their Turbo, St. Anger or Cold Lake, but I’m still confident that the guys are capable of conjuring up some purely unsettling riffs. Now that the band has completed a successful headlining run across the states with the most recent Summer Slaughter Tour, it looks like it’s time for the band to get back in the studio and make the next album, which will have to be called something starting with the letter J. Check out more info on the upcoming release after the jump!

Just a few days ago, David Vincent (vocals, bass) gave an interview with Planet Mosh TV:

“It’s time to write. Whatever it ends up being is whatever it ends up being. I don’t think about anything when I’m creating. It comes and that’s what happens.”
“We’re not really a traditional band…we follow our own path. It’s always been that way. Most of our records sound different that everything else that’s ever been out there – and that’s good. I don’t want to sound like everybody else.”

This is absolutely true and isn’t something that just started in 2011. Go back and listen to Blessed are the Sick and Domination and compare it with whatever else was going on in American death metal at the time. You’d be hard-pressed to find anything completely comparable.

Sure, I have no desire to ever hear David Vincent ignorantly sing about killing cops over GarageBand industrial beats ever again, but I’m still open to let the band continue experimenting and try new ideas. Maybe they’ll be more inspired by their Covenant-era material since they’ve been celebrating its 20th anniversary with multiple tours.
