Mayhem, the archetypal black metal legends involved in church burnings and murder as well as progenitors of a style carried on by the likes of Deathspell Omega and others, are back with their first new song in seven years, ‘Psywar.’
As its title implies, the song builds off the band’s orthodox black metal lineage with a touch of psychedelic and avant-garde flair once the track opens up halfway through in spacious madness. Metal Hammer has the exclusive debut of the band’s long-awaited return, and you can watch the lyric video below.
‘Psywar‘ will be released in the form of a 7″ EP on April 29th, which is available for pre-order at Season of Mist. The track will also appear on the group’s upcoming as-of-yet untitled LP, tentatively due out in May.
More word when we get it, but in the meantime, enjoy ‘Psywar.’
