Allow Me To Feign Interest In The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival For A Moment

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival is probably the biggest commercial metal tour in the United States since its inception in 2008. There was a point in my life when I would have loved the shit out of this tour, but I don’t see much to get excited for as far as my own enjoyment is concerned. Not to talk down on the tour or the bands on it; I’m glad there are more huge metal tours like Mayhem making their way across North America than there were when I was first getting into the genre. Hell, I wouldn’t even mind seeing Slipknot, as they’re a band that really pulled me into more aggressive music. I just can’t help but feel underwhelmed, you know? I’m busy being stoked on the possibility of catching Cannibal Corpse, BTBAM, The Faceless, and more on this year’s Summer Slaughter (which will be announced next week. God, I hope I’m right about that lineup).

But some of you are probably excited for Mayhem Fest, and that’s awesome. This year’s lineup is better than last year’s from where I’m sitting, and features Slipknot, Slayer, Anthrax, The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandria, As I Lay Dying, Whitechapel, and High on Fire. Some of these bands are pretty awesome. Some of them.

Lambgoat Premiere All Shall Perish’s “Procession of Ashes“

One of our favourite metal sites (besides ourselves, obviously), Lambgoat, have landed the premiere for Californian deathcore quintet All Shall Perish‘s new track ”Procession of Ashes“, which will feature on their upcoming album This Is Where It Ends.

We’ve got some division around the Heavy Blog campfire. Last summer, Jimmy named their 2008 album Awaken the Dreamers as the top reason why deathcore is actually redeemable, and not completely full of horseshit. There are elements of Awaken the Dreamers, but Jimmy and Pete aren’t too convinced I don’t think. I haven’t yet formed an opinion, but then again the genre isn’t particularly my bag, and I’m mostly filling a hole here whilst His Lordship holds ice to his face.

So; wha’tchoo lot think?

This Is Where It Ends is out Nuclear Blast on July 26th, and the band will be part of this summer’s Mayhem Fest (vague dates here thanks to Unearth).

It’s finally happening, we’re running a contest! You can win a pair of lawn tickets to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival featuring Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Norma Jean, and more!

We are giving away two (2) pairs of lawn tickets to your choice of venue at the select dates below. All I need you to do is send an email to mail(at)heavyblogisheavy(dot)com with the subject titled “Mayhem” with your full legal name and the date and location of the show you wish to attend in the body. Winners will be chosen at random Friday, July 30th, at 8 PM. All of this is courtesy of MOG Music Network and Live Nation. That’s right, YOU HAVE ONE DAY TO ENTER. GOGOGOGO.
