EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Join Tyrannus As They Storm Mournhold

It pleases me to write one of my favorite sentences: I was right and I told you so. Tyrannus will be releasing Mournhold this Friday and it is pretty much better in every way, seeing the band fully grow into their potential.

It is my absolute pleasure to inform you that it is time to get sick and nasty. You see, today we are premiering the new album from Scottish blackened thrash powerhouse, Tyrannus. In case you don't read the blog with the diligence of a monk (how dare you) you might have missed when I stumbled across their blistering demo about four years or so ago and, later on, premiered a single from their debut full length. Ever since then, I have been eagerly awaiting their next release. I was waiting for two reasons: first, I really like their approach to jagged, buzz-saw black metal, replete with all of the aggression and energy that I crave. Second, I was looking forward to seeing what their next step would sound like and whether they would grow even further into the potential I knew they had.

And so, it pleases me to write one of my favorite sentences: I was right and I told you so. Tyrannus will be releasing Mournhold this Friday, May 15th, and it is pretty much better in every way. First, the production really shines. Tyrannus already sounded good on Unslayable but with this one, they've really nailed down how to bring across those bristling guitars without drowning out anything else. But more than that, Tyrannus have cut into the fat of their compositions and they've brought forth something leaner and meaner. Every track is filled with momentum, where every note has a purpose and every word hits hard. And speaking words, I absolutely love the lyrical approach on this release. It's straight-forward but entirely moving, slicing deep just like the rest of the instruments to bring forth all the good emotions that blackened thrash is good for.

There's a lot more, like really sleek post-punk riffs, hair-raising solos, and flamboyant spoken word pieces. But I'll leave you to explore all of that for yourselves. Don't forget to click through to the Bandcamp page below to pre-order all of this goodness; you don't want to miss this one!
