You don't need much more than the combo of Willowtip Records, Persefone, and WORMED to get me to listen to something. It also helps if, once I listen to said thing, I am immediately enraptured by the tension between scintillating guitars, thick riffs, and gorgeous drumming, presenting exactly the kind of captivating, progressive music I've come to expect from the three names. Dissocia is the brain-child of Daniel R. Flys (Persefone, Eternal Storm), backed by the fierce drumming of Gabriel Valcázar's (WORMED, Cancer) and sounds like a more ambient and atmospheric version of Persefone's earlier work. It flies like a post-metal track and stings like a progressive death metal one, burning passion mettled by a frigid exterior. In short, it slaps; listen to and watch "Existentialist", the first single from the project's upcoming To Lift The Veil, below!

Another touch point we could add to the ones above would by the excellent Hypno5e. I just love those opening guitars, fliting about like glass strings and backed by those deep, resonant synths. Then, I love how that all effortlessly blend into the main, heavy riff of the track, only to resurface in key moments of the track again and again, that frozen "outside" of the track circling the heavier moments like I mentioned above. Needless to say, Valcázar's excellent drumming lends the whole thing the groove and punch it requires to stay cohesive. Throw in some weirder synth tones, excellent vocals both harsh and clean, and an overall structure that does a lot without overstaying its welcome, and you've got everything you need for an excellent time.

To Lift the Veil will release March 21st via the excellent, inimitable Willowtip Records. Click on through above to pre-order it or simply go here.
