Sometimes, a band rises at precisely the right moment. Their sound, songwriting, and themes resonate perfectly with the chaos of the universe, becoming less of a random act of artistry and more of an anthem for our times.
Experimental/technical death metal band Pyrrhic Salvation certainly have found their moment, announcing their sophomore EP and a new approach that captures the necessary discomfort of social upheaval. When Society Crumbles comes out on February 14, 2025, but we’re getting a first glimpse with the opening track below.
When Society Crumbles is Pyrrhic Salvation’s first foray into longform songwriting; the first three tracks form a single cohesive moment exploring societal collapse, humanity’s potential for insight, and the inevitability of self-destruction. The final song descends into an existential examination of how humanity created their own apocalypse.
While earlier versions of Pyrrhic Salvation leaned heavily into blackened death metal, When Society Crumbles embraces a more progressive sound without abandoning their OSDM roots. Electrifying guitars twist and arc over lurching death metal grooves, cutting through a subtle discordant atmosphere. “When Society Crumbles Part 1 - Infrastructures” feels like the spark that ignites the apocalypse, furious and urgent, yet systematically destructive as Pyrrhic Salvation unleashes rapid-fire experiments that shift from blistering technicality to pummeling grooves without missing a beat. Dueling vocals further escalate the calculated chaos, laying the groundwork for an ambitious EP seemingly designed for social disruption and decay.
