There are no words for how many of us are feeling today. America has rejected a return to “normal” – as broken normal was – and chosen a much darker and scarier future. Take care of yourselves and take care of each other. We love you.
For those in a bleak mood, rising Scottish post-metal band Beneath a Steel Sky offer a perfect soundtrack with their new single, “The Infinite Silence That Follows The Absolute Truth.” A massive-yet-meditative wall of sound captures the group’s origins as an instrumental project while injecting deeper wells of emotion with harsh vocals.
Beneath a Steel Sky describe themselves “retro futurist noir post-metal/rock-type noise,” a fitting definition for their dark and desolate sound that embraces the delicate and the abrasive with equal grace. Debut album Cleave, set for release early next year, captures a heavy emotional journey through painfully beautiful tracks that tread the line between song and soundscape.
Streaming below, “The Infinite Silence That Follows The Absolute Truth” is the sonic and emotional valley of Cleave. Beneath a Steel Sky demonstrate utmost care and control for the majority of the song, gently guiding the listener on an near-ambient journey for much of the 7+ minute experience. A soft and deliberate melody grounds us, wandering its way through soothing atmospheres. Deceptively fragile, we’re lulled and soothed by a few precious moments of calm.
But the momentary sense of peace is merely the eye of the storm. Beneath a Steel Sky bursts into a haunted crescendo of heavy guitars and howling vocals. The cry is all the more powerful after the quiet interlude that begins “The Infinite Silence That Follows The Absolute Truth” – and showcases how Beneath a Steel Sky has masterfully constructed Cleave for maximum emotional and musical impact.
Cleave will be released in early 2025 via Ripcord Records. Pre-order the album on Bandcamp and follow Beneath a Steel Sky for more.
