This is not the first time nor the second time I've had the pleasure of premiering a Blessed Black track; it's the third! And, ever since that first time, it took me exactly zero seconds to know I want to do it. If you need a reminder, Blessed Black play the kind of modern, big, riff-tastic doom metal which I love so much; add in a dash of The Eternal Champion references, a swagger that goes on for miles, and a dedication to making each release just that bit better than the previous one, and you've got yourself a winning formula. That formula keeps on kicking on "Obsidian", the track we're premiering today which comes to us from the band's upcoming EP, Seasons: Vol. 1 and boy does it slap. Head on down below for your own taste.

I mean, what's not to like here? I love the added edge which the vocals have on this track which leads me to believe Blessed Black might have (like the rest of us) been listening to doom aficionados Green Lung? Perhaps. The rest of the track has that same lilt which I love the UK guitar-slingers for but with that added Blessed Black punch. Seriously, the production on this track is so good; it's not just about the guitar tone but also the exquisite balance between the brilliance of the synths and the heft of the drums in the background. Throw in a killer solo (or two) near the end of the track, splash in a healthy dose of that puissant main riff, and stir it all to Blessed Black perfection and you get "Obsidian".

The three track EP also gains a lot from its limited run-time, making sure all of its punches land exactly when they should. Make sure you click on through to their Bandcamp to pre-order it. Seriously, Blessed Black keep going from strength to strength and if they keep on this path they might just turn into one of my favorite contemporary doom acts out there.
