Honestly the thing that originally drew me to Lower Automation when we premiered their EP all the way back in 2018 was their name; it has an allure to it that I can't quite define, something industrial and mysterious at the same time. It also helps of course that they play a type of mathcore heavily inflected with sounds and ideas that set them apart from your usual chaotic flock, all condensed into track runtimes that you usually only see in grindcore circles. And the music sort of is grindcore, just focused on creating aggression through a more scintillating, metallic sound rather than filth and grime.
Anyway, introductions aside, the band are back and gearing up for their new album “Strobe Light Shadow Play”, due out on November 22nd via Zegema Beach Records. We're happy and thrilled to premiere "Genuflect" from it, which starts off somberly enough with church bells but quickly explodes into the flickering, unstoppable, and agile balance between madness, melody, and abrasiveness that is the Lower Automation staple. Head on down below to check it out and don't forget to head on over here to pre-order the album!
