One day after premiering Brady to the world, we’re back with another member of the Flesh and Bone Records roster: the Syracuse, New York shoegaze quartet Trench, who are debuting the video for “Liminal” from their record Ritual Love, which was released in September of last year. Since their formation in 2015 Trench has quickly become a favorite band amongst fellow artists, with vocalist/guitarist Chris Reilly proving to be a staunch networking presence, forging bonds with other artists across the country through both booking endeavors and passionate vocal support.

The half-performance/half-narrative video, directed by Cloakroom bassist Bobby Markos (who is also formerly of the wildly underrated band Native) establishes the perfect tone for shoegazing. The band’s backdrop is enshrouded in smoke but pierced by captivatingly lurid lighting, while the rooms and passageways bathed in candlelight and the purposeful antiquity of the set design give the accompanying sequences a familiar-yet-otherworldly quality. The track itself is lush and engulfing, with an infectious, bouncing drum beat that is met with layers of guitar that wash warmly over and sink deep into the listeners ears while the bass provides integral secondary melodies that leap confidently over the walls of sounds. Reilly’s vocals are effectively dream-like and pleasingly sweet, and also actually stand out with purpose rather than settling into the back of the mix like many bands of the genre.

“Liminal” is being released in conjunction with the announcement of a run of dates that Trench will be playing, listed below. If you are finding yourself falling under Trench’s sumptuous sonic spell, you can find more by visiting their Facebook, Spotify, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
