In what will likely be our final premiere for the year, we bring you this subtly festive exclusive by progressive instrumental guitarist Chris Schiermann, better known by his project name in SCHIERMANN. Having just released his debut album, SCHIERMANN, you’ll get six tracks of delightful proggy goodness reminiscent of all your favorites, like Plini, a bit of Marty Friedman‘s solo work, and the requisite John Petrucci.

If that’s not enough for you, know that Schiermann had some helpful hands on this release, including Animals as LeadersMatt Gartska on drums, Chris Maresh on bass (whom you may know from Eric Johnson‘s work), and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Terrazas-Gonzalez from T.R.A.M. Oh, and did we mention it’s mixed and mastered by none other than TesseracT‘s Acle Kahney?

If you’re not ready to dive into the whole release just yet, please enjoy this playthrough of the excellent “Northern Lights,” the second track from the debut. To boot, the video was filmed and directed by TesseracT’s Amos Williams as well!

And here’s a note from Schiermann himself:

Hello all,
I would like to present to you a cozy little video that my friend Amos Williams filmed and directed. He was over here in the states for my full band video of a track off my debut album the day before Thanksgiving and Amos came up with the idea to film a play through video for the track “Northern Lights.” So, on Thanksgiving day after we were stuffed with turkey and red wine Amos staged the living room for a cozy little festive holiday video for you all to enjoy. Grab yourself a coffee with Bailey’s in it, sit down, hit the play button and enjoy the cinematic artistic festive holiday vision from Amos and myself (I’m just the guy playing guitar actually).
Happy holidays everyone!

If that got your innards tingling, you can grab the debut album from SCHIERMANN in both physical and digital formats on Bandcamp for ten bucks! The physical release seems like the way to go, because you’ll get both a CD and a digital version for the same price as the digital version alone.
