Venerable avant-garde black metal innovators Krallice have started the new year with a bang, releasing a three track EP entitled Hyperion on their Bandcamp page.

Consisting of material recorded in 2013 and previously only available in CD-R format during live appearances, Hyperion’s digital release makes the material available to wide audiences for the first time. Despite its age, it still fits nicely into the niche the band have carved out with their previous two albums, Years Past Matter and last year’s Ygg Huur.

Colin Marston and Mick Barr’s music definitely isn’t for everyone, but Krallice has always been one of the more accessible of their musical outlets, relatively speaking. The band builds on a well established black metal foundation to make music that’s fresh and innovative, and Hyperion sounds like it’s no exception.
