Fresh off of his studio debut with Aborted on last year’s excellent The Necrotic Manifesto, Dutch multi-instrumentalist – but primarily guitarist – Mendel bij de Leij is preparing to release the third album from his solo project Mendel, entitled Oblivion. Fans of the Belgian death-grinders should tread with caution, though, as Mendel’s style shows Leij foregoing these genres completely in favor of melodic and progressive guitar porn. This is demonstrated by Oblivions‘s most recent lead single “Pulse,” for which Leij has just released a music video that may be viewed after the jump:

Regardless of what genre Leig is playing, it is clear that he is skilled at both composing and performing solid technical metal. Along with “Pulse,” two additional tracks from Oblivion – “Discover” and “Horizon” – have been released and may be streamed on Mendel’s Bandcamp.

And while streaming these tracks, digital and CD copies of Oblivion may be pre-ordered in advance of the album’s May 17th release date.
