Beyond Creation’s sophomore album last year, Earthborn Evolution, was the cherry on top of an excellent year of technical death metal (check out Ahmed’s stellar review of it here). Their extreme jazzy influences, monstrous chords, and tight playing won over many here at the blog, and naturally, we’ve been wondering where they’re going to go next. And now, it seems like their course may have been altered from what we previously thought it would be, as the replacement of a band member would be wont to do.

For those of you that didn’t see previous news about this same subject, Dominic Lapointe, known as “Forest,” has parted ways with Beyond Creation, to the dismay of many of the band’s fans. Dominic’s incredible bass talent has been a large part of Beyond Creation’s sound on both of their albums, and it’s saddening to see him leave a band which has benefited so much from his presence.

However, Hugo Doyon-Karout, formerly (and perhaps still) of similarly-minded Montreal technical death metal band Brought By Pain, is going to be stepping into the vacancy Lapointe left behind. Having listened to Karout’s band, it’s easy to say that he will be a fantastic musician to pick up where Beyond Creation left off on their last album.
