Gruesome is a death metal supergroup of sorts with one goal in mind: to worship and celebrate the iconic sound of the early Death records. Consisting of Matt Harvey (Exhumed), Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed), Gus Rios (ex-Malevolent Creation) and Robin Mazen (Derketa), Gruesome has been on my radar ever since they formed last year, and the band has at last announced details surrounding their debut album Savage Land, including a totally righteous-sounding album preview. Check it out after the jump!
You don’t even have to listen to the album preview to know that these guys are flawless Death worship; their logo and the unmistakable Ed Repka album art are direct tributes to Death’s legendary Leprosy album. However, their music itself is also a fantastic homage to early Death; in fact, it’s so true to the Death sound that if you didn’t know any better, you wouldn’t be faulted for thinking you were listening to a long lost Death B-side. In other words, Gruesome play music that would make Chuck Schuldiner immensely proud.
Savage Land is set for release on April 21 via Relapse. Pre-order this beast here.
