It sure seems like supergroups have been popping up left and right over the past few years, but this one may just be the best pairing yet. With one of the weirdest band names out there right now, The Legend of the Seagullmen is the new project featuring Brent Hinds (guitar and vocals, Mastodon) and Danny Carey (drums, Tool) and will be produced by film director Jimmy Hayward, who Hinds had worked with on the Jonah Hex movie. Check out some new tunes below!

While it’s no secret that Hinds and Carey have been behind some pretty bizarre music over the years, “The Deep-Sea Diver” definitely introduces some new textures and styles that haven’t been covered by their previous bands in the past. It’s like listening to Neurosis write a soundtrack to a spaghetti western. Equally freakish and orchestral, this is certainly something to be on every prog geek’s radar. Sure, it may be a bit of a bummer that Carey isn’t working on the new Tool album and Hinds hasn’t still put out his Giraffe Tongue Orchestra project yet, but at least we’ve got some new ideas that are interesting to say the least.
