I like to write a nice, flowery introduction to these kind of posts, mentioning something general about a particular scene or genre of music but not today. Scumguts were brought to my attention by our very own William France. He shared this with the staff here over the weekend and, after 30 seconds of some of the most crushing powerviolence I have heard in a long time, I set about writing this. This band and their new record are full of spunk, in the crustiest meaning of the word.

Scumguts are from Brisbane in the land Down Under and, while Australia has always given us incredible metal, this band came straight out of nowhere to surprise even me. Every song comes fucking HURLING out of the traps. The staples are all here; that familiar guitar tone, percussion that never knows when to give up and vocals that grate just the right amount to match the lyrical content. That’s not to say however that these guys are another band picked straight from the shelf. This is perfect, pissed off music from a country that many, including myself, take for granted as a far away paradise. There is a saying about trouble in paradise that I forget. The trouble they were referencing is probably Scumguts.
Get the bands self-titled LP on their Bandcamp and check ’em out on the usual social media platforms or they will come to your house and cover you in ‘Sixty Trillion Tonnes Of Shit’.
