Dorthia Cottrell (Windhand) is one of my favorite vocalists. Besides her amazing work on Windhand, her guest spot on this year’s Inter Arma album, The Cavern, simply kills me very time. Her voice has this power and timbre to it that is impossible to match and it invokes all the sadness you can think of in a few simple lines. Now, the singer is gearing up for a 2015 solo album, self titled. She’s released a single from said album by the title of ‘Gold’ and you can hear it right after the jump.

Honestly, this track took about 30 seconds to bring me to tears. The simple arrangement in the back ground, nothing sophisticated yet all too powerful, works beautiful magic on Cottrell’s voice. The vocalist herself sounds her all time best, fleshing out those low tones that make her voice so unique. I am beyond thrilled for this album and what it’s going to do to my heart. 2015 marches quickly!
