The new Cynic album is a pretty deal to a good number of people. So I was a little surprised to see a brand new track so quietly released last Friday and without much fanfare surrounding it. But, I’m not complaining, more chances to get familiar with the ever-changing world of Cynic ain’t exactly a bad thing and it helps that ‘Kindly Bent To Free Us‘ is a beautiful listen that’ll capture your ear within the first thirty seconds.
The track comes courtesy of Chuck Loesch over at SideOneTrackOne.com, who you may also know as one half of the MetalSucks podcast.
UPDATE — 11:20 am: The track has since been “officially” been made available via Revolver. Listen here:
In line with ‘The Lion’s Roar‘, it’s a softer approach that the band took on their previous releases, filled with thick bass tones, lush guitars and Masvidal’s serene and instantly recognisable approach to vocals. The more I hear of this new sound, the more it clicks with me, much like Alcest‘s latest metamorphosis, it may not have the bee-line hooks of a track like ‘Adam’s Murmur‘ or ‘Box Up My Bones‘ but it’s definitely an interesting listen.
Kindly Bent To Free Us will be released this coming Valentine’s Day. How romantic.
