Tag Archive: Drewsif Stalin’s Musical Endeavors

Everyone’s getting into the Christmas spirit and doing metally renditions of classic Christmas songs. This year so far, we’ve had Austrian Death Machine, Becoming the Archetype, and August Burns Red release some holiday cheer in their own respective styles. Now you can add Drewsif Stalin and Carthage to your Christmas party mix.

Drewsif Stalin just released a medley of Christmas music titled “Black Christmas”, which includes “Silent Night” and “Joy To The World.” This track features Drew’s kickass singing voice, which I’m glad we’re starting to hear more of! Listen to that below:

Carthage, Tre Watson‘s band, also released a cover of “Mary Did You Know” in their own style. It’s definitely a risky cover to make because it’s supposed to be this very haunting song, but as far as stylistic interpretations go, Carthage did a pretty good job with it! Bonus points for the flamenco intro.

Yay, Christmas!

Drewsif Stalin’s one cool dude. It’s like he’s constantly releasing bits of new musical endeavors left and right, which I can dig. If the above photo doesn’t make it obvious, he’s also known to get silly and have fun. It’s always nice to meet musicians who are great at what they do and don’t take themselves so seriously, you know?

My man-crush on Drew is never ceasing, and with the new DSME cover of Katy Perry‘s “E.T.” (the version without Kanye West, thankfully), it only grows stronger. I always thought as Katy Perry as being better than your run of the mill pop-stars, and if there’s anything that can get me to notice how infectiously catchy pop is, it’s metal covers and mashups (see: “Bleedarazi”, which made me actually pay attention to Lady Gaga). Check out the video of Drew and drummer Anup Sanstry slinging some djenty pop woo.

You can download the track for free at the DSME bandcamp page. Enjoy your new guilty pleasure.

Drewsif Stalin’s Musical Endeavors‘ new EP Excursion comes out tomorrow! If you’re not as stoked as I am, you definitely should be. Drewsif’s been getting better with every release as he’s starting to find his own unique style. He’s also been getting more comfortable with his vocal performance, as evidenced in the brand new track, “Overjoyed,” which you can listen to below!

Drewsif Stalin’s Musical Endeavors – Overjoyed

Absolutely beautiful. I definitely can’t wait to hear the rest of this EP.

Keep up with Drewsif on Facebook and if you haven’t, check out his other work on Bandcamp, where Excursion will be hitting tomorrow!

Instrumental progressive rock/metal band Scale The Summit (who will be on tour with Periphery and Fair To Midland this spring) will be releasing their new album The Collective on March 1st, kicking off what will now be referred to as Prog-Metal March.

March of 2011 already sees releases from bands such as Scale the Summit, Tesseract, Protest the Hero, Drewsif Stalin’s Musical Endeavors, Obscura, and The Human Abstract. All of that deliciousness within the course of the month. If that isn’t a good sign for 2011 to come, I don’t know what is. Prepare yourselves! Heavy Blog plans to make an occasion out of it. How should we celebrate Prog-Metal March? Let us know in the comments section!

So, to reiterate, Scale The Summit’s The Collective is out March 1st on Prosthetic Records. You can pre-order it at this location. Thanks to our pal Scott at Hook In Mouth for the heads up on this tasty news!

It’s short and a work in progress, but you can hear the direction Drewsif Stalin plans on taking with vocal work.

The original song is called “Collapse” and can be heard on An Insomniac’s Narrative. You can listen to and download that album here.

Drewsif Stalin‘s like a machine, cranking out new tunes all the damn time. Just this weekend, the dude unleashed a new song, “Absurdity.” It’s a pretty sweet jam.

And if you didn’t know, he’s in a female fronted progressive metalcore type band called ToTheArk, which just covered the classic Ben E. King song “Stand By Me.” Check it out!

You can keep tabs on ToTheArk on MySpace.

This Fire Burns by DrewsifStalin

And musically, I think it’s better.

Friend of the site Drewsif Stalin, who released an awesome tech death EP earlier this year, covered “This Fire Burns” by Killswitch Engage. Of course, he did all the instruments and vocals himself (with the exception of the talking during the breakdown) and it sounds pretty damn good. Listen and download it above.

Keep on burning, Drew.

Drewsif Stalin’s Musical Endeavors is still one of the greatest music submissions we’ve had over here at Heavy Blog Is Heavy. Drew can write some pretty sick grooves and jams, and his two previous releases were awesome. So when he announced a new EP in the style of technical death metal, I was immediately excited.

The wait is now over, and Drewsif Stalin has a new Musical Endeavor for you to feast your ears upon, and it is delicious.

You can stream and download the album for free via the above player. It is so worth your time, it pays you back by adding a couple of hours to your life. Trust me, it does. It’s science.

If you dig the tunes, check out his other stuff over at his Bandcamp page.
