The more I hear about Torture, the more excited I get. Halfway through January we got a preview in the form of the truely brutal ‘Demented Aggression‘ and now Revolver are streaming another new cut from the upcoming album Torture called ‘Scourge Of Iron‘. Monday isn’t a good time for anyone but I definitely needed this mid-tempo stomp today and I would definitely suggest you head over to the Revolver site and check it out.

Cannibal Corpse are really onto something special with ‘Scourge Of Iron‘; the slow groovy chugging riffs remind me a lot of Domination-era Morbid Angel or even modern day Bloodbath and it’s been a long time since I’ve heard a guitar solo that’s made me stop and pay attention like that. It’s a slightly different approach to the normal balls-to-the-wall songwriting method the Corpse adopt but it’s not the first time they’ve dropped the tempo in favor of something that encroaches on Suffocation‘s territory. If the rest of the album is half as good as this then Torture is a definite early contender for album of the year.

It’s due out soon too – March 13th on Metal Blade!

Yeah, we know the lineup is different now, but this is the latest promo. Use your imagination!

This year’s Summer Slaughter Tour is looking like the biggest one yet, with Cannibal Corpse and Between the Buried and Me being the ticket’s highest selling points. Each week, Summer Slaughter will be announcing a new addition to the lineup until the whole bill is announced. Pretty smooth plan, as I’ll be mentioning them at least once a week until we get the dates. Hurray, marketing!

This week, we can check off another band that is confirmed for the trek from the rumored lineup that we reported a few weeks ago; The Faceless will be high on the bill. Expected, and yet still completely exciting!

Next week: Veil of Maya? Hate Eternal? Exhumed? A wildcard!? We’ll find out next week!

CALLED IT!

So Summer Slaughter’s lineup rumors are looking like they’re true. This year’s trek will include headliner Cannibal Corpse with special guests Between the Buried and Me. If you aren’t excited, you need to check your pulse. These two bands bring in a wide spectrum of metal fans, which will no doubt be filled in nicely with the diverse rumored lineup of The Faceless, Job For A Cowboy, Veil of Maya, Exhumed, and Hate Eternal. There should be something for everyone, and as long as some unwanted lame metalcore or deathcore band slips in, this will likely be the best Summer Slaughter lineup yet.

I’m stoked on this. The rest of the lineup will be slowly churned out each Sunday, so keep up with Summer Slaughter on Facebook for up-to-date info.

Cannibal Corpse have finally given us a peek into the new album Torture, set to be released March 13th through Metal Blade, with a new track ‘Demented Aggression‘ and well… it’s Cannibal Corpse isn’t it? The biggest selling death metal band in the US and the second biggest in the world. Their name is synonymous with death metal, owning a back catalog that stretches all the way back to 1990 through eleven full length albums and I’m sure by now every metalhead is at least familiar with their name, if not the sound.

Cannibal Corpse do pure unadulterated death metal with no gimmicks and it hasn’t really changed much in the last 20 years. Steering clear of the blastbeat fetish that most other bands seem to have, they simply keep up the tempo through proficient and cutting riffs and the rapid quickfire growl of George Fisher, all backed up by a naturally killer production from Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal). There’s a smattering of technicality about it that they previously capatalised on in recent full lengths Evisceration Plague and Kill but nothing too overpowering and ‘Demented Aggression‘ is simply another chapter in the book of Cannibal Corpse that will keep long time fans happy but won’t convert any non-believers.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

After the jump, check out the track list for Torment.

Yesterday, I pointed out that there was a strong possibility that Cannibal Corpse and Between the Buried and Me were to headline this year’s iteration of The Summer Slaughter Tour. Since then, I’ve heard that the pairing is indeed true, as well as a handful of other bigger names being announced for the bill.

The Faceless, Job For A Cowboy, Veil of Maya, and Hate Eternal are also rumored to be a part of what is promised to be the biggest Summer Slaughter tour ever. EDIT: Metalsucks pointed out that Exhumed may be a part of the tour as well.

I mean, I’m pretty much 90% convinced that this is fact based on all the evidence provided. All of these bands are signed to either Metal Blade and Sumerian, two of the larger stakeholders in the tour. On top of that, most of the bands have albums due out by the time summer hits. I’d be shocked if this wasn’t at least mostly right. Place your bets in the comments section below.

When the lineup is officially announced, we’ll fill you in. This is shaping up to be a tour not to be missed.

I can hardly contain my excitement and anticipation. This weekend, Between the Buried and Me posted the above picture on their Facebook with the caption “It has started.” The band have started work on Parallax 2, the full-length follow up to the concept that began on last year’s EP Parallax: The Hypersleep Dialogues. This might just be my record of the year, if it’s as great as the EP, which I’m sure it will be.

There’s not much to tell now, but we’ll keep you posted on the details when they become available this year. Expect a late spring/early summer release on Metal Blade records.

And now for the juiciest of news. Late last year, The Summer Slaughter Tour Facebook page announced that 2012 was going to be the biggest lineup yet, with the cryptic status message on New Years Eve being “Hammer Smashed Mordecai.” Could this mean that Cannibal Corpse and Between the Buried and Me (both signed to Metal Blade, an annual sponsor of the tour) are co-headlining Summer Slaughter 2012? Both bands have new albums coming out this year, so I couldn’t imagine what else this teaser could mean. ‘Hammer Smashed Face’ and ‘Mordecai’ were both bands’ respective break-out singles. We’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as the lineup is announced. This is so exciting. If it’s true, this will really be the tour’s biggest year yet and you’d have to be an idiot to miss it.

The Rotted (formerly Gorerotted) area London band, through and through. You could hear it distinctly on their 2008 full-length Get Dead Or Die Trying - stories of drug abuse, fist fights and even tour bus surfing nestled peacefully alongside a style of punk-y death metal that owed as much to Motorhead and Discharge as it did to Cannibal Corpse. Whilst The Sex Pistols shambled through most of their material in the name of ‘punk’, The Rotted shifted effortlessly between d-beats and blastbeats to show that you could retain all the sneering swagger of a punk band while still playing competently. Ad Nauseam is, however, a little different to what we’ve come to expect.

As if we needed another reason to adore Basick Records, they’ve announced today that they’ve signed instrumental prog metal band Blotted Science. If you aren’t familiar with this band, then take a peek at this short bio and get excited:

Featuring the insanely talented guitarist/evil genius Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, TERRESTRIAL EXILED, SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL), and new arrival, drummer Hannes Grossmann (OBSCURA, TERRESTRIAL EXILED) – “The Animation of Entomology” is described as “a cross between CANNIBAL CORPSE, SPASTIC INK, and a Bugs Bunny cartoon.”

Having experimented with writing complex pieces of music to sync up with movie sequences in the past with his previous outfit SPASTIC INK, the concept has now been applied to BLOTTED SCIENCE over the course of seven songs and a total of 24 minutes of music, taking Jarzombek’s fascination with animated cartoons and creepy crawlies to a whole new level.

This band is seriously awesome. One of the songs on their new EP, “Cretaceous Chasm,” was scored to a scene from the 2005 King Kong remake. Check it out!

Tell me that doesn’t blow your mind. Go ahead.

The Animation of Entomology sees a Basick release November 28th!

So, Ron Jarzombek’s instrumental tech death project Blotted Science have an upcoming EP called The Animation of Entomology. For the uninformed, the band consists of Ron Jarzombek of Watchtower and Spastic Ink fame on guitars, Cannibal Corpse bassist Alex Webster and now Hannes Grossmann of ex-Necrophagist and currently of Obscura on drums! If this lineup doesn’t excite you, I don’t know what can. We don’t have any info on the upcoming album yet…except for the following teaser video with excerpts from each song!

If you liked 2007′s The Machinations of Dementia, this seems like more of that awesomeness, with some extra added. Ron Jarzombek is a mastermind, and this is no exception; however the addition of Hannes Grossmann is what seems to have made a difference, as there are some tight blast beats on the teaser, which were absent on the previous album.

The Animation of Entomology should be out this fall on EclecticElectric, which seems to be Ron Jarzombek’s own label. Stay tuned for more information.

[Relapse Records]

John Gallagher is basically a manifestation of death metal itself.  Take a look at his credentials.  The man has been the only founding member of Dying Fetus to stay with the band since it’s formation in 1991.  He worked hard to get his group noticed, touring while they were unsigned, and because of this, they developed at devout cult following.  Since signing with Relapse Records in 2000, he has released four albums.  Through the bands 20 year existence, the band has gone through numerous musicians (14, to be precise).  However, the band has had a stable line-up since 2007, with Sean Baisley, who has been a member for 10 years as bassist/backup vocalist, and Trey Williams, who has been their drummer since 2007,  and has recorded and toured as a trio ever since.  Yeah, his credentials are awesome.  So when word leaked that he would release a cover EP in celebration of the bands 20 year anniversary and their upcoming stint on the Summer Slaughter tour, I immediately became interested.  One of the most influential bands covering songs that influences him and his bandmates is an awesome thing that more bands should do, in my opinion.
