Holy cannoli! Today I was running naked through the fields of the internet and I came across the website gigposters.com. Why, in my quarter century of life, have I not come across this site before? Seriously, I’ve been using the internet since I was like 8. Anyway, it’s pretty much the coolest website. The concept is exactly what the name would lead you to believe. There are so many beautiful posters on this site, and I’ve spent more of my day than I care to admit looking at them. I’ve compiled a couple of my favourite below.

As I was browsing though I started thinking, why don’t bands sell these posters at shows? Screw buying a t-shirt, if I was at a show and saw posters like these, silk screened on fine art paper? I would flip out. Take for instance the Muse poster below. I was at that show; I saw those bands play. If I had seen that poster for sale I would have bought it for sure, even though it’s not a great poster and it would have been madly overpriced.

The only time I can ever remember seeing a really well done poster at a show was when I saw Pelican a few years back. For some reason I bought a t-shirt instead for reasons that I can’t fathom. Oh the follies of our youth. Anyway, I’m keeping my post short this week because I’m working on some big things for my next series of articles. Enjoy my selections below.

Now don’t get me wrong, I really do love metal for the most part, it’s one of my favorite genres of music! There are a few aspects of it however, that I really can’t stand. I loathe them. One of the worst of these aspects that I hear over and over and over again in metal today are absolutely terrible transitions. There are many different kinds of awful transitions, but in this post I’m just going to focus on bashing one particular type of transition, the kind I hate the most. Lets get started.

Metal Band X is writing a song, they have Riff A and Riff B. How do they get from Riff A to Riff B? Well it’s quite simple really. Once Riff A has reached is climax with every member of the band playing/screaming at full force, every band member suddenly stops playing besides one of the guitarists. The said guitarist then begins playing Riff B alone. Maybe they’ll play it once, maybe they’ll play it 4 times. It depends on how long Riff B is I suppose. Anyways, after the guitarist does their thing, the rest of the band jumps back in and they all play Riff B together. Transition completed. Simple as that.

It’s really not so terrible, until you realize that this type of transition typically occurs lets say….10-20 times on your average metal album, and it gets pretty stale.

The Acacia Strain unleashed a new video earlier, giving details on the name and album art of their fifth upcoming full-length which you can see below.

Wormwood? Chances are you’re as confused as I am at the name and art choices. I don’t particularly think they’re bad, it just doesn’t seem to “click” with me. Maybe I’m over thinking this, I guess I’ll find out when Wormwood comes out July 20th on Prosthetic Records.
