Genghis Tron – Signal Fire (posty-matchore, cybergrind?)
There are those around here who revere it, but for me, the resurrection of progressive cybergrind pioneers Genghis Tron as a boring, trendy dream-pop band, with 2021's Dream Weapon, is one of the bigger musical let-downs of recent memory. Signal Fire, on the other hand, perfectly spits the difference, bringing back a lot more of the band's progressive tendencies, alongside some harsher vocals and an alternative-industrial elements, reminiscent of Health or even Filter in their more 90s-coded moments. It's a balanced approach that keeps the best of what Genghis Tron learned on Dream Weapon, while also retaining a lot of what made them so special in the first place. and—from the few quick listens I've managed to give it today—I'd say it's rather superb.
