Weedpecker is a criminally underrated band. These Polish stalwarts of psychedelic, progressive rock tend to be bucketed in with other bands from the genre but there is so much more to them. Over the last few years, they've released some of my favorite works in this kind of expansive, spacey, psychedelic rock, refining the art of how to create long, busy albums that feel airy and expansive. They also recorded one of my all time favorite splits, with Dopelord, Major Kong, and Spaceslug, which should tell you everything you need to know about the milieu these guys operate in.
And so, it's my absolute pleasure to premiere "In the Dark We Shine", a single from their upcoming release, V, which is due to drop on February 27th. Fans of the bands will recognize the warm, redolent tones of the track as Weedpecker's soft side, tapping into the pinks and oranges of the psychedelic color palette. There are, of course, much meatier and groovier riffs and moments on the album but I absolute adore "In the Dark We Shine" for its indulgent softness. The synth tones are pure bliss and while I find the style of vocals on this, that Pink Floyd sort of dream sequence singing, to often be irritating in other places, here it works incredibly well.
There is so much more goodness on V, so make sure to check in with the band's Bandcamp closer to release for a pre-order and eventual release. Stay groovy until then. Also, damn that cover art rules.
