Another day, another reason to lose all faith in humanity. When the bar has already sunk below hell and the world is simply in free fall, there’s only one way to describe the mood: “Ultralow,” also known as the new single from Vandampire.
“Ultralow” is the first glimpse at Vandampire’s new album, Hope Scars. Featuring an expanded lineup with a second guitarist, Hope Scars is something of a rebirth for the English band, channeling their unique sonic heritage into a debut full-length that scrapes the emotional edges of all things noisy and abrasive.
Infusing the hazy atmospheres of post-metal with the fury of sludge and angst of noise rock, Vandampire surrounds and suffocates like a weighted blanket. “Ultralow” captures their sound at its most urgent, pummeling the ear with massive grooves that teem with agitation. Featuring former members of screamo bands andtheywillriot! and Serena Joy, “Ultralow” bristles with a jittery fury that refuses to settle, even when pitted against the bruising crush of speaker-breaking riffs and melodies that dissolve into noisy glimmers at the edges. Whether it’s noise rock and screamo reinterpreted as sludge, or sludge reanimated as noise rock is up for debate. Either way, sitting still through “Ultralow” is impossible.
Hope Scars will be released on October 31st. Pre-order the album on Bandcamp from Ripcord Records.
