I can't believe that I get to write these words: The Isosceles Project are back. If you don't know who that is, shame on you. Do you even read the blog? As you might be able to tell, that post says "11 years ago" (fuck) so it's been a while since I've written about these guys. Therefore, refresher: The Isosceles Project are the grooviest instrumental progressive metal project I've ever heard. Yes, I know I just wrote a post about how I don't really listen to instrumental metal anymore but here we are and the Isosceles Project are just that good. Finally, finally, finally, the project is back with Bear the Torch, their new album which is due to drop October 17th. And guess what I have? That's right, a single from said release. And oh my god, it slaps so hard. Head on down. Get ready to dance.
I just...can't. No one sounds like these guys so it's extra great to hear that they haven't lost a beat and are still dedicated to making the grooviest progressive metal they can. They use the staccato structures that tend to be overused in the genre with excellent accuracy, always mindful that the power of syncope is in how it interacts with the rest of the composition and not just for its own sake. Everything relies on this: the breakneck drumming, the off-kilter guitars and the grumbling bass. Speaking of those guitars, I love how the psychedelic vibes have been turned up a notch on "Division Helmet". Especially the last minute or so of the track just reeks with that good, psychedelic stink.
If you're not excited, I don't know what to tell you. I have the full album and it's all just this good, filled to the brim with tasty, groovy, proggy goodness. Go here. Pre-order the release. Get hyped. I'm so happy! The Isosceles Project are back!!!
