Anyone extra ready for the long weekend? Maybe you’re tired of pointless work, struggle to focus on corporate minutiae when democracy is burning, or just really, really like sleeping in. Or maybe you’re sick of that coworker.
Red Brick has just the song you need to survive another day at the office. Their latest single, “Incompetence” (subtle, right?), is dedicated to the very special people who make it even harder to survive in late-stage capitalism.
Drummer/vocalist Chris Penrod shared: “You know that one really bad co-worker that just, straight up, sucks at their job? The kind of person that pawns off their work and errors to you. Yeah, we worked with them too, they just seem like life was handed to them. We had them in mind when writing this song.”
Summoned from the Philadelphia duo’s upcoming album, Thrown, “Incompetence” is a hate song that wraps the fury of grindcore and groove of death metal in a suffocating blanket of sludge. Dragged even further into the depths by doomy riffs, “Incompetence” is equal parts slow burn and fuck-it outburst. The opening riffs crackle with fuzzy intensity, marching along to harsh howls. Within moments, that tension explodes into pummeling grooves punctuated by staccato drums. Utterly caustic, “Incompetence” is anger and frustration turned into pure sonic assault.
Proud purveyors of false sludge, Red Brick form a gut punch that goes beyond a simple listening experience. Their electrifying intensity casts a vicious filter over their various influences, rubbing extreme music into a raw blister of aggression. Despite lineup changes, trauma, and the daily grind that is existence, Red Brick has erupted with a primal howl of fury that will blow out your speakers and your ear drums.
